From when do ingredients and nutrition have to be declared?
For wines produced on or after 8 December 2023. Wines produced before that date may be sold without the new particulars until stocks are exhausted.
How does a Weinlabels e-label work?
You create the wine in your account and print the QR code on the label. Anyone who scans the code with a smartphone sees the nutrition declaration and list of ingredients of exactly that wine.
What has to stay on the label despite the e-label?
The energy value in kJ and kcal per 100 ml, for example “E (100 ml) = 303 kJ / 73 kcal”, and the allergens, usually “Contains: sulphites”. Next to the QR code there has to be a reference in words such as “Ingredients and nutrition”; an “i” alone is not enough.
Can I print everything directly on the label?
Yes, that is allowed. The full nutrition table and list of ingredients do take up a lot of space, which is then missing for design and marketing.
Why not just use a page on my own website?
The e-label must not collect user data and must not be combined with advertising or sales information. Most winery websites run analytics and link to a shop. The e-label also has to stay online for as long as the wine is sold; such pages are easily lost when a website is rebuilt.
What does Weinlabels cost?
Nothing. There is no fee per QR code and no subscription, and views of your e-labels are unlimited.
Can I change details after printing?
Yes. The QR code always points to the same e-label, whose content you can correct at any time. For a new vintage you duplicate the wine and adjust the values.
My labels are already printed. What now?
Have the QR code printed as a sticker, for example on 4 × 4 cm rolls, and attach it to the bottle together with the energy value and allergen statement.
Is any consumer data collected?
No. The e-labels set no cookies and use no analytics or advertising services. The servers are located in Germany.
Is the account area available in English or Portuguese?
Not yet. Registration and the editor are currently in German. The e-labels themselves can be displayed in several languages.
What happens to my e-labels if I cancel?
All e-labels remain available for five more years after cancellation, so bottles on the market stay correctly labelled.
