Choosing an e-label provider: 8 questions to ask

The e-label has to remain available for years, often longer than a contract runs. Choosing a service is therefore not just a question of price. These eight questions help you compare offers.

  1. Does the e-label collect user data? Statistics cookies, analytics services or advertising trackers are not allowed in the e-label. Ask whether the pages work without cookies and without third parties.
  2. What does it cost in the long run? Watch out for fees per QR code, per year or per view. With many wines and several vintages, this adds up.
  3. How long does the e-label stay online after cancellation? Bottles often remain on the market for years. Wine control authorities recommend three to ten years, depending on the wine.
  4. Does the QR code stay the same when you correct details? Otherwise labels would have to be reprinted.
  5. Are nutrition values calculated? A calculator based on alcohol, sugar, acid and glycerol saves a laboratory order.
  6. In which languages is the e-label displayed? Exporters need the languages of their markets.
  7. Where are the servers? A location in the EU simplifies data protection.
  8. Is there advertising or shop links in the e-label? Neither is allowed, and neither may come from the provider.
